My Story
A warm hello to you! If you're here, you're probably interested in learning more about me. My name is Devka Andotra. I have a Master of Arts in Counselling & Spirituality, specialized in Couples & Family Therapy from Saint Paul University, which allowed me the privilege to become a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
For years, I felt drawn to mental health issues. I was intrigued by the vastness of the human psychological mind. I was inspired by some theorists such as Viktor Frankl and Carl Jung to explore psychology from a deeper lens. Across my journey, I learned to view the same things in a different light, and I also noticed the stigma against mental health. I felt an urge from within to become a voice and face the stigma in some manner.
A day arrived where I curiously took a psychology class, in which the professor was brilliant and unique. By the end of the semester, his curious persona had inspired me to become a therapist.
Throughout my training, I rediscovered myself, and was humbled by the irreplaceable experiences. I learned the importance of culturally-sensitive psychotherapy, and strive to incorporate an Eastern lens with the predominantly Western lens of psychotherapy.
I could share endlessly about my journey,
but for now I will leave you with a thought:
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” - Carl Jung

My Approach
I am a therapist, who works from an integrative approach, based in Ottawa, offering virtual sessions only. I believe each therapeutic approach, theory or intervention has its own gifts. The unique lessons from different perspectives can be valuable and enriching. In the same way, each individual or couple is unique; thus, I believe in the importance of catering to your specific needs by using various perspectives from a culturally-sensitive lens.
From the vastness, some theories that continue to inspire my professional work include but are not limited to: Psychodynamic theory, Existentialism, Person-centered humanistic therapy, Solution-focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Imago Therapy, Experiential therapy, and more.
I have worked with folks from many different paths of life, including but not limited to: BIPOC, such as South Asians seeking culturally sensitive therapy, persons with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ community, and veterans among others.
No matter one's background, I believe in providing an open, non-judgmental, and compassionate presence to all humans.
